there are a lot of things wrong with this place and its Discourse but you know what

I spent all of yesterday in shorts and a tank top– a perfectly normal summer outfit that I haven’t worn where people could see me in more than a decade– because I’m part of a network of people who consistently recognize and endorse body positivity (among other things) and I’m slowly internalizing it

it’s a small and personal example but y’all have brought real and measurable good into my life, so thanks ♥

Captain Marvel Will Be Fighting Skrulls in the 90′s in Her Solo Movie

At San Diego Comic Con, Marvel announced that Captain Marvel will be set in the 1990′s and Carol will be fighting the Skrulls, a race of shape-shifting aliens. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury will also star in the movie alongside Brie Larson. [x]

Huh. I… really like this idea. Not just because I’m a pushover for period and recent-past settings, but because this timeline does a lot to mitigate the difference between Brie Larson’s young age and Carol Danvers’ advanced rank.

And I SUPER LOVE Nick Fury in a starring roll, especially 15 years before he spearheads the Avengers Initiative. Grey, cryptic, compartmentalized, wheels-within-wheels spymaster Nick Fury is one of the low-key most interesting characters in the MCU, and I’m genuinely excited to see how pre-Avengers, pre-eyepatch, pre-Pierce betrayal Nick is portrayed and how that expands his character.

This is a clever solution to the growing problem of a very crowded field of superheroes in present-day-setting MCU. And, it gives them breathing room to introduce S.W.O.R.D. and (what I lovingly refer to as) all the space shit, to provide more context for Thanos & friends before IW2 comes out. Plus, more time with an in-depth Nick Fury? Sign me up!

Director Peggy Carter can be in this 1990s setting, too.

YAY
