every so often i post a few passages from this. it’s by ken liu, whose explanation of silkpunk i just reblogged, and it’s an excerpt from his story paper menagerie (linked here in its entirety; it won the hugo, the nebula, and the world fantasy awards, the first work of fiction to do so). it is not remotely an easy read, particularly if you are a child of a diaspora, particularly if you have ever struggled with assimilation, particularly if you are struggling with cultural and personal identity. it shouldn’t need to pull its punches, and it doesn’t. if you haven’t read it already, i cannot recommend it highly enough. it will not make you feel better, but it is an axe for one’s internal frozen sea, if you will. sometimes a story like this is the only way to stay alive.

SPN AU & Trope Bingo.

While there are many great au’s out there created by all of our wonderful writers, we live in a consumerism world and we always want more which is where this challenge came from. The all new SPN AU & Trope Bingo.

But what is this exactly? That is a great question. Each person who signs up will be submitted a 5×5 bingo square (which means that you’ll have 25 squares in total) each square centered around the characters of Supernatural and most importantly, different AU’s, occupations and tropes.

So, for example, you might get a square that has firefighter!dean and then a coffee shop au. Write whatever comes to mind, the only stipulation is that they must fall into the AU that was given. So if you get firefighter!dean, then Dean has to be a firefighter. Now what else you want to do, that’s up to you. You can have him run into a burning building and save people or have him come home to whatever pairing you want and create a super sexy fire in the bedroom (if yah get what I mean).

Sounds pretty awesome right and now you wanna do this. So lets do it.

I can’t resist a bingo. It’s a sickness.
