CEO Joe Ricketts, who founded TD Ameritrade, pulled the plug on the sites a week after reporters and editors from DNAinfo and Gothamist won a contentious fight to join a union. The move puts 115 journalists suddenly out of a job, the New York Times reported.
Reporters at the local news sites, which were still churning out scheduled social media content Thursday afternoon linking to the now-defunct sites, did not appear to have been informed of the decision ahead of the closure.“I just walked back from the bathroom to find out that everyone at @Gothamist and @DNAinfoNY has been laid off,” tweeted Christopher Robbins, the city editor at Gothamist and DNAinfo.
Billionaire owner shuts down news sites and DELETES THE ENTIRE SITE ARCHIVE in retaliation for his employees preparing to unionize. Eat the rich.
RIGHT like shutting it down is one thing but it appears that the ENTIRE ARCHIVE for these sites are just…gone. The reporters, journalists, editors, writers, photographers…all of their years of work is gone.
Extremely handy if you follow a lot of people and hate missing anything good.
Best Stuff First moves the best stuff on your dashboard—mhm!—right up to the top.
It’s rolling out this week on iOS and Android, and comes with this Help Center article.
Thanks! ✌️
I don’t have the option to turn it off yet, but chances are good that my dash is still affected. Chances are good that y’all have been affected. Whatever you do, keep checking your settings tab for the ability to TURN THIS OFF. Because we creators are gonna suffer from this.
————
There’s a chance that y’all might not have gotten this option yet, but i finally did. For the sake of all creators out there, check your general settings and look for this option. If you have it, TURN IT OFF. Don’t let some algorithm dictate what you see.
Don’t just like this. It needs to be spread so people know. Not only will your feed be out of chronological order, but creators who aren’t hella popular are suffering lack of exposure because of this. This is the one thing i WILL pressure to reblog.
Hilariously, I did not see this new post at the top of my dash until I turned off the dashboard sorting thing.
TURN IT OFF PLEASE!!!!
I think @caplansteverogers has said it before, this feature seriously impacts people who create original content.
The only hope is that readers of our fics, viewers of our edits and videos, listeners of our original songs REBLOG THE WORK!!!
Because of this feature, the most popular posts will be at the top of your dashboard. That means that the original content that people have poured their soul into will not be shown unless it has like 5000 notes or something. And believe me when I say the most don’t. The most beautiful things on this site often go unnoticed.
This is when us (fic) writers, editors, photographers, actors, singers and everyone need you most. Please for the love of god reblog our works.
I don’t know if the most people know, but if your works don’t get a lot of notes or at least some validation, you start to lose motivation. You don’t feel like your original content is worth anything and that’s where you’re so wrong. Everyone has worked hard on something and it is worth so so much, whether it has got 2 notes or 100k. It’s a shame if it goes unnoticed and creators of original content start losing hope and disappear and never bless the world with their creations again because @staff once again wanted to implement a feature no one wanted.
Please please turn this off and reblog. Don’t be shy and say that you were scared of feeling a bit straightforward or whatever. We will all love you for reblogging our stuff. So PLEASE PLEASE REBLOG OUR ORIGINAL CONTENT AND TURN THIS FEATURE OFF!!💜
