I don’t know how recent this, but I just discovered that tumblr has made it easier to report reposts (and as you can see reposting is not okay. Just stop stealing people’s things!).
You can report people for either reposting or selfpromoting on your post
And then you just have to fill out a little form with links to the repost and a link to your original post as well as your email (so they can let you know what happens next)
Note: You can only report for posts you are the owner of – so if you see somebody else’s post has been stolen, just notify them, and maybe give them this link if they didn’t know it existed
Please reblog this so we can make tumblr a better place for creators, not the lazy reposters!
Just a reminder, since I’ve been seeing more reposts than ever floating around lately. This DOES work. I have recently used this feature and managed to get one of my manips removed from a reposter. Take advantage of this feature.
The thin witch hesitated for a moment, and then: ‘We look to … the edges,’ said Mistress Weatherwax. ‘There’re a lot of edges, more than people know. Between life and death, this world and the next, night and day, right and wrong… an’ they need watchin’. We watch ‘em, we guard the sum of things. And we never ask for any reward. That’s important.’
honestly the SPN fandom is one of the most critical toward its own source media that I’ve ever seen. like 90% of it is warranted, but that’s not even the point – the point is that SPN fandom is incredibly critical. I’ve seen other fandoms which will go unnamed here get complete passes by the fans tbh. that doesn’t happen in SPN fandom.
so when I see posts like “LOL R WE DONE PRETENDING SUPERNATURAL IS A GOOD SHOW????” I’m like… was anyone ever doing such? even if you remove the issues regarding gender and race and sexuality (lol good luck with that), it’s not particularly well-made or well-written. no one’s over here pretending it’s Breaking Bad. we just like it. for all its wrongs, a lot of people have found it to be doing something right to hold our attention all these seasons. and there’s nothing wrong with that.
I think it’s worth noting that a lot of the people who are especially negative toward the show are people like myself who finally got burned one too many times. I quit watching the show after Charlie died because I could not physically stomach the violence toward women anymore. I was literally crying with anger when it happened and disappointed in a way I’d never been in a tv show before. As a queer woman, it hurt on this whole other level just because it wasn’t just some character, but it was the character the best represented me.
For me, being able to lash out a bit at something that I enjoyed (and loved and considered a safety net at times) that wound up hurting me in ways that hit very close to him is quite frankly therapeutic.
SPN was never an Emmy-deserving show, but to a lot of fans, it did use to be a better show. Look back at the first few seasons (up until 5, yeah, I’m a Kripke purist, fight me) and you notice a completely different tone. Some themes are still there, but it’s a whole different show. It’s the one many people fell in love with and some of us couldn’t take the transition into what SPN is now.
I understand a lot of people still love the show and I’m glad that you find something in it that you enjoy, but a lot of the people who are saying things like what you mentioned are former fans who watched something they love turn into something they couldn’t stand. And that’s okay too.
all of that is okay, and I should have made it clearer that I was not really talking about ex-fans offering legit criticism in my original post. that said:
1) I’ve seen about four different posts along the lines of “LOL LOVE URSELVES SPN FANS HOW DOES SPN GET 11 SEASONS WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS” recently and whenever I check blogs of OP, they’re not into SPN. they don’t seem to have ever been SPN blogs.
there’s a difference between the therapeutic venting of ex-fans and people trying to get a cheap shot in at an acceptable target. the latter bugs me because people act like they’re being Clockwork Orange’d into watching SPN.
2) here’s where I bring in the big guns: I am the opposite of a Kripke purist. he very much set the sexist, racist, homophobic tone for this show from day 1. the other showrunners should have done better and not taken up this mantle, but he’s the one who put it in place. if people like the themes or mood better in those seasons, I get it, but there’s a recent wave of “S1-S5 was not sexist!” and dear god no.
3) ex-fan or not, “LUV URSELVES STOP WATCHING SPN” is still obnoxious. and I fail to see how it’s therapeutic. I stand by that.
this section from the 10.10 DVD episode commentary with Curtis Armstrong, John Badham, Brad Bucker, and Eugenie Ross-Lemming is honestly SUCH a myopic mess I have to transcribe it here for posterity, because holy christ how can u still remain this blind:
I was trying to express how angry I was over that post down below but I’d just enabled shortcuts on x-kit (R, D, T, etc) and couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t type “R” or “D” to express my
rage? nope, has an R
anger? also R
pissed? sorry, D
mad? there’s that D again
so in the end I just typed “I’m so ???????????????”, posted, and refreshed my browser with that deselected
but not before I’d reblogged and drafted Angela Merkel thirty-two times on my personal blog
