From left to right: sweet potatoes I bought to eat that I left on top of my microwave until they became a mature forest; mini-greenhouse plant now doubled in size and no longer fit for any kind of mini anything; lemon verbena plant that has sprung back very well from the Great Cat Massacre of ‘14; sprawling pothos that came from a single sad tiny cutting I took from an office plant at my second internship to give my windowless little cubicle some life; mini-greenhouse and the two of six plants that still fit; a second set of sweet potatoes I forgot to eat; from the dark period when I was just planting a whole bunch of seeds in a pot to see what would happen, my miraculous orange tree; a bonsai given as a very solemn meaningful gift to a coworker by someone we both thought was a little weird, which I said I would take care of and which she literally pushed into my hands and abandoned; a newcomer lavender from the green grocer at work; a catnip plant from PetSmart that brought with it a plague of spider mites I battled for months; finally, the ivy I bought to be my Christmas tree in 2012 which didn’t grow and didn’t grow until I put it on the windowsill that actually got some light and now suddenly it’s the LeBron James of ivy or something
