So Sam cut open his palm to banish Lucifer.

This is the same palm that bore the cut he used to banish Hallucifer. The cut that was the focal point of his coping strategy, to remind himself with that pain that this was real, and Hallucifer wasn’t. The scar that he pressed on for a year, to make the Lucifer in his head disappear.

And the same palm he cut open during the Last Trial and which Dean then bandaged with a bandana, telling him not to end his life.

And now Sam just deliberately re-opened that wound to banish the real Lucifer.

And at the end of the episode, he tied a red bandana around it. And sat, holding it.

Toward the end of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester 4.07 Cas says to Dean “Can I tell you something if you promise not to tell another soul?” Then he tells Dean about his doubts, a confession that could get him pulled back to heaven for punishment. He’d known Dean for 6 weeks, 6 weeks, and he trusted him with that information. We should talk about this more.

And to this day Dean still hasn’t told another soul I think that’s important to talk about too
